Why a home charger makes a difference

Plugging an electric vehicle into a standard household socket works, but it's slow — typically providing around 8 miles of range per hour. A dedicated home charger delivers between 25 and 30 miles per hour, meaning a full charge overnight rather than the better part of a day.

Beyond speed, a dedicated charger is safer, more energy-efficient, and in most cases smarter — modern units track usage, allow scheduled charging, and integrate with energy tariffs that make overnight charging significantly cheaper.

For commercial properties and workplaces, EV charging is increasingly expected by employees and clients. It can also attract business rates benefits and, where applicable, grant funding.

What to expect from Nursteed

An assessment of your existing supply Before anything is installed, we check that your property's electrical supply can accommodate a charger — and if it can't, we tell you what would need to change. Some older properties need a supply upgrade before a charger can be fitted safely.
Advice on the right unit for your situation There are a range of chargers on the market at different price points and with different features. We'll talk you through the options and recommend something that fits how you actually use your vehicle, not just what's most expensive.
A clean, tidy installation Cable routing is planned to be as unobtrusive as possible. We don't leave conduit trailing across walls or a mass of cables at the point of installation. It should look considered, because it is.
Full documentation and certification All installations are certified and documented. For residential installs under the OZEV scheme, we handle the grant application process on your behalf where applicable.

Common questions

Am I eligible for a government grant?

The OZEV Workplace Charging Scheme provides funding towards the cost of EV charger installation for businesses, charities and public sector organisations. Residential grants vary by scheme and eligibility. We'll confirm what applies to your situation when we quote.

What charger brands do you install?

We work with the main UK-stocked brands — Ohme, Zappi, Wallbox, Hypervolt and others. We're brand-agnostic and will recommend based on your usage, your property, and your budget. If you've already chosen a unit, we can install it.

How long does installation take?

Most home installations are completed in half a day to a full day. Commercial installs with multiple charging points take longer and depend on the scope of the job.

Does my property need a supply upgrade first?

It depends on the existing supply and what else is drawing from it. We assess this as part of the quoting process. Most modern properties can accommodate a standard 7kW charger without any additional work — but older properties sometimes need attention to the consumer unit or supply before installation.

Can a charger be installed in a garage or outbuilding?

Yes, provided the outbuilding has an adequate electrical supply. If it doesn't, we can discuss what would be involved in extending a supply from the main property.
